This belief has led to the company towards expanding their operations across the globe where the company acquired the Corus in 2007 that initiated their operations in the European market. These aspects have contributed to the company emerging as the tenth largest steel producer across the world with a workforce that entails about 81,000 in over five continents. Additionally, the company has for many years emphasized major influence on the economic development in India with objectives that aim at strengthening their position in terms of presence in the international domain. This has been achieved through the company being on the forefront in ensuring responsibility and creating trust. In additionally, the company engages in investments in companies throughout the globe so as to help them create a manufacturing and marketing network in regions such as South East Asia, countries along the Pacific and in Europe.Company Overview
Tata Steel Company deals in a wide array of activities that entail automobiles, telecommunication goods and most of steel. These activities are among 80 companies that offer employment to about 200,000 people across India. These aspects have led to the company being named as the largest private employer due to its intensive activities. However, in the past few years, the company has committed its operations to developing the nation through initiatives intended to improve the welfare of the people within the communities in which its operations are based (Sharma et al. 2012). Consequently, most of the company's operations are based on social development and welfare of the communities such as Jharhand through the internalization of the company since it was established. These operations have enabled the company to develop towards enriching the nation in terms of wealth and services. These benefits are entitled to the people in order to facilitate the development (Sharma et al. 2012). Additionally, most of the equity within the company emanated from its mother firm, Tata Sons Ltd that significantly contributed to the firm's growth since the 1860s.
Tata Steel Company has also received recognition in various fields through the initiation of various welfare laws. For instance, it established The Welfare Department in 1917 and the law was later enforced in 1948. Additionally, among other activities the firm introduced the Maternity Benefit in 1928 which was later enforced in 1946. Additionally, the policy requires that these Group Companies to give active support to activities held locally within the state of operation (Sharma et al. 2012). Arguably, the company has engaged in the creation of employment in a view to creating social sustainability. Moreover, the company has directly employed over 14,000 employees in Europe while more thousands of people are employed indirectly through contractors and suppliers. In a view to ensure corporate social responsibility, the company also ensures regional employment through enterprises in the UK so as to facilitate the economic regeneration of communities affected by changes in the steel industry (Sharma et al. 2012).
Tata Steel Company was established in 1975 and since then, it has invested about 68 million pounds in the expansion of businesses as well as over 29 million pounds in the management of these workplaces. This has offered employment to over 67, 000 people in India alone (Sharma et al. 2012). Tata Steel Company has portrayed corporate social responsibility through its commitment to good corporate citizenship and adherence to the applicable rules and regulations. These groups include programs that help in empowering women through generation of income and have also extended their operation in more than 700 villages (Sivukumar, 2009). Additionally, in India the Tata Steel Company has engaged in the healthcare services that aim at curing and preventing illnesses through improving health within the community. This entails facts that have indicated over 145,600 people from both rural and urban areas which have benefited from the treatment offered through the company's mobile medical units. In addition, Tata Steel Company was responsible for the organization of the 13th Lifeline program based in Joda that aimed at reaching out to villagers in remote areas (Sivukumar, 2009).
Similarly, the Tata Steel Company has initiated in activities aimed at preventing HIV/AIDS through the Kavach project that aimed at curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS among long distance truck distance drivers. The company received much recognition for this project through an award known as the Golden Standard Certificate that went to the Khushi clinic by the Transport Corporation of India Foundation (Sivukumar, 2009). This is with The Sneh Kendra that entails a counseling initiative that aimed at providing counseling and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Company developed a program aimed at economic empowerment through improvisation of agriculture. This has been characterized through investments of both time and money where the company spent over Rs 100 crore to cater for the requirements of the program in order to benefit more than 40,000 people. Most of the activities the company has undertaken have occurred for more than 100 years but most recent activities have been undertaken since 2003 (Sivukumar, 2009). The range of activities the company participates normally occurs locally, but there are other operations that have been undertaken within wider scales of their scope. In addition, the company would benefit through ensuring that the workforce commits to the initiatives and tasks delegated to them. Collectively, these activities would bring about growth to the company through local and international grounds (Brammer et al. 2007).
