Kolman, D. (2010). Fleet mantainance. Retrieved August 9, 2013, from Information management: http://search.proquest.com/docview/229973897?accountid=13380

UPS is one of the largest package delivery companies and a leading company in supply chain and freight services in the world. Its huge success has been attributed to the maximum use of information to optimize its operations. Basically, UPS has technology to a ‘create a picture’ of the package cars and the driver by capturing data from sensors on close to 200 vehicle related elements.

The main objective of this article was to elaborate and show how UPS has critically and creatively established an information initiative to improve efficiency and safety with a consistent cut in energy consumption and emissions. The article touched on the critical issues on how UPS incorporates vehicle data, systematic analysis and telematic technology to reduce costs by delivering fleet data, increase driver and regulatory compliance, optimize safety by putting fleet managers, and improve customer satisfaction by making it easy to monitor deliver windows and lower initial costs by leveraging software as a service solution. The author of the article explained in details how these information systems are beneficial and also cultivated on how they reduce energy costs; however, the author didn’t cite any reference for his work this making it difficult for the reader to make a follow up study and did not also support his work by indicating current statists related to his argument.

The language used by the author is quite direct an very understandable .The author clearly used diagrams that aid the reader to easily pictures the information, the article has gave me a lot of insight on how telematic technology can be used as a modern technology. Notably this is a very important article in research that can be used by anybody since it reflects on current issues on information management.

Jagstaidt, U. &. (2011). Smart Metering information management. Retrieved August 13, 2013, from Business& information systems Engeneering: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12599-011-0173-5

Smart Metering Information Management.

The ultimate necessity of smart metering in an electric supply setup is becoming more decentralized and volatile through the feed -in of recyclable energies thou the implementation is still at young stages. Growing regulatory pressure aimed at more energy efficiency, improving decentralized energy feed in, innovative service offerings and novel application for customers will boost the Smart Meter technology.

The main objective of the article was to create an outlook on smart metering information management highlighting on the information management within the energy industry status Quo of smart metering initiatives, Smart Metering and Smart initiatives, importance of information management to Smart Metering. The author uses the scope and the type of the outlined the challenges outlined to attest that the information management discipline can provide solutions to described challenges of smart Meter deployment. The author of the article has confined himself and effectively discussed the relationship between smart meter and smart grid generating a very informative article on business information technology. Nevertheless, the article does not reflect on the future of the smart metering information management therefore creating a very discrete transition on the part of the reader.

Eldridge, S. (2011). Metadata. Retrieved August 13, 2013, from Broadcast Engineering: http://search.proquest.com/docview/869883373?accountid=13380

Metadata is basically a data about a data but majorly about video content, it is the essential component in the implementation of an efficient and effective broad cast workflow. It is a very essential component for it allows you to organize process and manage the content according to business rules. There are two types of metadata that include structural metadata which refers to the physical properties of the content and descriptive metadata.

The main objective of the article as outlined by the writer is to show how work flow can be enhanced enormously through the effective use of metadata. The author discuses the two types of metadata, the various ways on how to store metadata in an external database in order to enable scalability and strongly insists that the ability to filter content and create virtual groups is essential for organizations managing large volume of data. The article also links the theory to practical by demonstrating how metadata work flows can be integrated in mobile phones Despite the very incisive argument on the metadata the author has failed to use any statistical backup to support his information, the article also lacks references where the reader can consult for more information thus making the article to be rigid.

Davies, K. (2011). iRODS. Retrieved August 13, 2013, from The metadata solution to data management: http://search.proquest.com/docview/884228793?accountid=13380

In recent times data management has become a real problem and according to researcher the big problem is the downstream analysis by the informaticians. The IRODS data grid implements distributed software middleware that executes the remote storage system protocol under the control of a distributed rule engine , a scheduler (ISEC),a messaging system(iXMS) and a central metadata catalog(iCAT).This system enables multiple clients to access data stored in a remote location.

The main emphasis that is laid out by this article is to explore how iRODS is a metadata solution on data management. This article discusses the various contributions of scientist like Chris Smith and Charles Schmitt towards explaining the principle behind iRODS and its benefits to data management. The author outlines one of benefits of iRODS is that it inhibits data loss by creating a replica of a file and also the systems allows the user to decide where to locate and replicate the file. The author still goes ahead to advice the general public to embrace that technology for it reduces burden and produces value. Despite the valuable information on the article, the author fails to substantiate his claims using statistics and doesn’t cite any references for his work.

The intensive research and use of simple language by the author makes the work easy to understand though it could have been better if there were references and statistical presentations. This is a very good article since it expounds clearly on the benefits if iRODS to information management. It’s a very applicable technology which applies to nearly every institution despite the size so long as it uses information systems.
